About project
Consultants from KPMG approached us with the task of optimizing the leveling of a 3-hectare site for a client. The main goal was to minimize the volumes of soil import and export, which directly affected the costs and timelines of the construction project.
Solution
We began by creating an accurate 3D model of the site using cadastral data and elevation measurements above sea level. Missing data were interpolated to obtain a complete terrain profile. Based on this model, we developed a specialized calculator capable of calculating the surplus and shortage of cubic meters of soil at various leveling heights. Using the gradient descent algorithm, we determined the optimal leveling height above sea level. This approach allowed us to find the point of minimal costs, at which the volume of earthworks was minimized.
Result
As a result, the company was able to significantly reduce expenses on earthworks. The optimization reduced the need for additional soil import or export, which also decreased the project's environmental impact. Implementation timelines were shortened, and team efficiency improved thanks to precise data and decision-making tools.
